After landing, it is about 2.5 to 3 hours by road to Tanjung Batu harbor, then about 40 minutes by speedboat to Derawan Island; on our trips, both transfers are included.
Once you check into your accommodation, consider staying at a cozy beachfront guesthouse or a more luxurious resort; on our trips you choose your stay, and the trip price depends on it. After settling in, take a leisurely stroll along the beach to soak up your first sunset over the Sulawesi Sea.

Day 2: Derawan Island Snorkeling and Relaxation
Start your day with a hearty breakfast at your accommodation before heading out for a day of snorkeling around Derawan Island. The waters are teeming with vibrant coral reefs and marine life. Day 3: Derawan to Kakaban Island
On your third day, prepare for an early start as you embark on a day trip to Kakaban Island. The island is famous for its unique natural features, including another Jellyfish Lake and stunning mangrove forests. A boat ride from Derawan to Kakaban takes about 45 minutes; on our trips, the speedboat is included.
Once there, you can enjoy snorkeling in the lakes, spotting not only jellyfish but also various fish species. A snorkel guide can enhance your experience, and guides are included in our trips. After a morning of exploration, enjoy your packed lunch on the beach before heading to Sangalaki Island in the afternoon.
Sangalaki is renowned for its diving spots, especially if you’re keen on seeing manta rays. If you’re certified, you can dive here with a local dive shop; our Derawan trips are snorkel-based and scuba diving is not included. Alternatively, you can continue snorkeling. After a long day, return to Derawan Island for dinner and relaxation.
Day 4: Maratua Island Adventure
The fourth day brings another exciting island-hopping adventure, this time to Maratua Island, which is known for its pristine beaches and fantastic snorkeling and diving sites. The boat ride to Maratua takes about 1 hour.
Maratua Island offers several dive sites, such as The Lighthouse and the famous Maratua Drop Off, where you can dive to depths of 30 meters (100 feet) to encounter various marine life, including turtles and reef sharks. If you’re not diving, there are plenty of snorkeling opportunities along the beaches.
After a day enjoying the sun and sea, explore the island’s local culture in the evening. Have dinner at a beachfront café and enjoy some fresh seafood while listening to the waves lapping against the shore.
Day 5: Cultural Exploration and Departure
