How much does a Derawan island tour cost?

A private tour starts from USD 1,290 in total for two guests on a 3D2N, standard tier, and from USD 2,190 on a 4D3N. The stay sets the price and larger groups pay less each. The Open Trip Derawan 4D3N is USD 280 per person.

How many days do you need?

Three days two nights is the shortest workable format and covers Maratua, Kakaban and Sangalaki. Four days three nights adds the Talisayan whale sharks, Manimbora and Labuan Cermin on day 3. Those are the two private formats we run.

When is the best time for a Derawan island tour?

April to November is the best season: the crossings between Derawan, Sangalaki, Kakaban and Maratua are most reliable then. December to March is the wetter period. For early April or late November, ask before buying flights.

Do you need to be a diver?

No. The island tour is surface based: swimming ability and basic snorkelling are enough for the jellyfish lake and the manta encounters near Sangalaki. Our Derawan trips are snorkel-based; scuba diving is not included.

How do you get to the start of the tour?

Fly (booked by you) to Kalimarau Airport (BEJ) in Berau, where the guide meets your group; about 2.5 to 3 hours by road to Tanjung Batu, then about 40 minutes by speedboat to Derawan. Book flights only after your itinerary and dates are confirmed in writing.
