tour packages — Derawan Archipelago, Berau, East Kalimantan

Updated: August 2026

Derawan tour packages are private, tailor-made itineraries through the Derawan Archipelago in Berau, East Kalimantan, sold per person and priced by group size, starting from USD 281 per person for a group of nine on the standard tier. Every itinerary in this category is operated by Indonesia Juara, part of Juara Holding Group since 2015, and runs in the 3D2N or 4D3N format from Kalimarau Airport (BEJ) in Berau.

This category page is the map of everything we sell in the Derawan Archipelago. Below you will find the price structure, the nine destinations that itineraries are built from, and a one-line explanation of each of the seven package pages so you can go straight to the one that matches your trip.

Every Derawan package here is a private departure, not a fixed group tour

All itineraries in this category are private trips: your group travels with its own boat, guide and schedule, with a minimum of two participants. There is no shared departure with strangers, and no fixed weekly date you have to fit into. The published figures are per person and they move with two variables only: how many people travel together, and whether you take the standard or the premium accommodation tier.

The base format is 3D2N or 4D3N, starting and finishing at Kalimarau Airport (BEJ) in Berau. Longer or shorter shapes are quoted on request, because the archipelago is spread out and the number of nights decides how many of the nine destinations realistically fit.

What a Derawan tour package costs per person, by group size

Prices below are indicative starting points in USD per person for the Private Trip Derawan 3D2N / 4D3N. They depend on group size and tier, and they are confirmed in writing per date before anything is booked.

Travellers in the groupStandard tier (from, USD per person)Premium tier (from, USD per person)
2 people580672
3 people442506
4 people391437
5 people331368
6 people359391
7 people340368
8 people322345
9 people281304
10 people285304

The pattern is simple: the per-person figure falls as the group grows, because boat charter and guiding are shared costs. A couple pays from USD 580 per person; a group of nine pays from USD 281 per person. The premium tier adds roughly USD 92 per person for two travellers and roughly USD 23 per person at nine travellers, and it changes the accommodation standard, not the destination list.

The seven Derawan itineraries in this category, explained in one line each

Derawan Island Tour

The Derawan island tour is the standard entry point: the classic archipelago circuit covering the headline islands in a 3D2N or 4D3N private format, and the page most travellers should read first if they have never been to Berau.

Derawan Trip

The Derawan trip page is the flexible, build-your-own version for couples, families and small private groups who want the itinerary shaped around their own dates and interests rather than a pre-set route.

Derawan Diving Package

The Derawan diving package is the certified-diver itinerary, built around the reef and wall sites of the archipelago and pairing naturally with our guide to Derawan dive sites.

Derawan Snorkelling Tour

The Derawan snorkelling tour is the surface-only itinerary for travellers who do not dive, centred on Kakaban’s jellyfish lake and the shallow reef flats, with the full spot list on our Derawan snorkelling spots page.

Derawan Liveaboard

The Derawan liveaboard option keeps you on the water between islands instead of returning to a land base each night, which is the format that suits divers who want maximum time at the outer sites.

Derawan Island Hopping Tour

The Derawan island hopping tour is the multi-island route for travellers who want breadth rather than depth, chaining Kakaban, Sangalaki and Maratua into a single moving itinerary.

Bali to Derawan Combined Trip

The Bali to Derawan page is for visitors already in Indonesia who want to attach the archipelago to a Bali or Komodo holiday, and it deals with the routing and timing that combination requires.

Nine destinations feed every Derawan itinerary

Whichever package you choose, the itinerary is assembled from the same pool of nine destinations: Talisayan for whale sharks, Maratua Island, Kakaban Island and its jellyfish lake, Sangalaki Island for manta rays, Goa Halo Tabung, Manta Point, Pasir Gusung Sanggalau, Laguna Kehe Daing, and Labuan Cermin, the two-layer mirror lake.

Two of those nine sit on the Berau mainland side rather than in the island group, which is why Talisayan whale shark mornings and Labuan Cermin are usually the reason a group upgrades from 3D2N to 4D3N. On the wildlife side, the two encounters that most often decide the route are manta ray snorkelling at Sangalaki and green turtle nesting around Derawan itself.

Accommodation on a Derawan package comes from a fixed property pool

Land-based itineraries use a working pool of properties across the archipelago and the Berau coast: Reza Derawan Resort, Alfit VIP Borneo Cottage, Sienna Resort, Maratua Paradise Resort, Arasatu Villa, Pratasaba Resort and Seheku Paradise. Which one you get depends on the tier you choose, your route and availability on your dates, and it is always confirmed in writing before booking. Compare the options on our Derawan islands resort guide, or read the dedicated page on Maratua Paradise Resort if you are leaning towards an over-water stay.

The Derawan season runs from April to November

Trips operate between April and November, an eight-month window when sea conditions on the crossings are most reliable. Outside that window the open-water transfers between Derawan, Sangalaki, Kakaban and Maratua become unpredictable, which is why we do not publish fixed departures for those months. If your dates are at the edge of the season, say so in your first message and we will tell you honestly whether the route still works.

Every package starts at Kalimarau Airport in Berau

The meeting point for all itineraries is Kalimarau Airport (BEJ) in Berau, East Kalimantan, and that is where the trip ends too. Flights into Berau connect through the larger Indonesian hubs, and the route options are broken down on our how to get to Derawan Islands page, with the two gateway comparisons on Derawan via Berau and Derawan via Tarakan. Book your flights only after your itinerary is confirmed, never before.

How to get a quote for a Derawan tour package

Send your dates, group size and the package page you are interested in to sales@indonesiajuara.asia. You will get back a written itinerary with the per-person figure for your exact group size and tier, the property shortlist for your dates, and what is and is not included. Indonesia Juara has operated Indonesian archipelago trips under Juara Holding Group since 2015.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a Derawan tour package cost per person?

A private Derawan tour package starts from USD 281 per person for a group of nine on the standard tier, and from USD 580 per person for a couple. The figure depends entirely on two things: how many people travel together, and whether you choose the standard or premium accommodation tier. Per-person cost falls as the group grows because the boat, guide and transfers are shared. Every quote is confirmed in writing for your specific dates and group size before booking.

What is the best time of year for a Derawan trip?

The Derawan season runs from April to November, an eight-month operating window. Within that period sea conditions on the open crossings between Derawan, Sangalaki, Kakaban and Maratua are most reliable, which matters because every itinerary depends on those transfers. Outside the season the crossings become unpredictable and we do not publish fixed departures. If your travel dates fall near the start or end of the window, ask before booking flights.

Where does a Derawan package start and end?

All Derawan packages start and end at Kalimarau Airport (BEJ) in Berau, East Kalimantan. That is the meeting point for every itinerary in this category, whether you have booked a diving package, a snorkelling tour or an island hopping route. From Berau the trip continues overland and by boat into the archipelago. Arrange your flights into Berau only after the itinerary and dates are confirmed in writing.

How many days do I need in the Derawan Islands?

The two standard formats are 3D2N and 4D3N, and the choice decides how many of the nine destinations fit. A 3D2N trip concentrates on the island group itself. The 4D3N format is what most groups choose when they want to add the mainland-side destinations, Talisayan for whale sharks and Labuan Cermin, without compressing the island days. Custom lengths are quoted on request for divers and photographers who want more water time.

Is there a minimum group size for a private Derawan trip?

The minimum is two participants for every private Derawan itinerary. Two people can book any package in this category, and the published per-person price for a pair is the highest on the scale because boat and guiding costs are split between fewer travellers. Groups of six to ten see the lowest per-person figures. If you are travelling solo, email us and we will explain the options for your dates.

What is the difference between the standard and premium tier?

The tier changes the accommodation standard, not the destinations you visit. Both tiers run the same route from the same pool of nine destinations, and the price gap ranges from roughly USD 92 per person for a couple down to roughly USD 23 per person in a group of nine. Which specific property you stay in depends on your tier, your route and availability on your dates, and is always confirmed in writing before you pay anything.
