A quieter honeymoon than Bali
The archipelago in East Kalimantan has 31 small islands, including Derawan, Maratua, Sangalaki and Kakaban, inside the Berau Marine Protected Area. Compared with Bali there are fewer crowds, fewer day-trippers and more space for privacy.
It suits couples who value quiet beaches, clear water and marine life over nightlife and malls. Many use Derawan as a soft-adventure finale to a Bali wedding, or as an alternative during Nyepi, Bali's day of silence.
